What do I need...?

  • What do you need to visit Uruguay

    Basic requirements to visit Uruguay are:

    Valid and updated documentation.
    Sunlight offers special deals for straight, straight – straight friendly, gay friendly, gls. Those can be arranged to keep on travelling around South American with our regional department staff.
    We can arrange your special deals or those can be negotiated with special tour operators from other regions. In case of pandemic or epidemic infection please make sure you have all vaccination and medicine required as a way to prevent future inconveniences, in accordance with the sanitary laws of each visiting country.
    Weather
    Uruguayan weather is mild warm, so specific clothing for each season is required.
    Temperature goes from 0 to 8 C degrees in winter and in summer from 20 to 38 or 40 C.
    Currency
    Uruguayan currency is the Uruguayan Peso, and we have a free exchange market, with a vast offer of exchange places available.
    We also work with credit cards, and in most places international currency is accepted as well.
    Brasil on the contrary, is not so easy to exchange or buy in international currency, so we strongly suggest to make sure to have Brazilian currency available before arriving to Brazil. That can be done in Uruguay prior to arrival in Brazil.
    Argentina is not so complicated, but we recommend exchanging money in banks directly. We suggest to always have small currency and change available.
    Transportation:
    With previous notice, we can offer private transportation or arrange private tours for our passengers. If our passengers wish to continue to Brazil, we can arrange the purchase of ticket for you, air our ground. If you chose ground transportation, ticket covers up to Sao Paulo, with our Uruguayan ground service. If you wish to continue in Brazil, you will need to arrange with Brazilian tourist agents to be able to do so.
    For Argentina, you can chose ground, air or ship transportation, crossing directly from Montevideo Port, or colonia, to Argentina. We can offer you also special deals to visit Iguazu Falls.
    Travel insurance:
    We strongly suggest you have your own travel insurance as a way to be completely safe during your stay in our country. Each country has its own specific travel insurance policies, passenger will make sure to have all information before departure of his home country.

    Other details:
    We suggest our passengers to keep all trip related documentation (vouchers, tickets, receipts). If you are travelling with travel checks, please check before arrival which type is accepted in uruguay and if it’s possible to exchange them once here.
    WE REQUEST you have a photocopy or your original document, and keep it in a safe place (like hotel safe or reception) to have in case you misplace or lose your documentation.
    GLS movement in Montevideo
    Normally, GLS movement in Montevideo takes place over the weekends, not meaning that if you wish to stay during the week you won’t be able to get to know our local culture, architecture and social profile that defines Uruguayans as social and friendly hosts.
    Outside our capital city GLS movement is just beginning, but we can offer you hotels and the chance to stay in Gay friendly places in different regions of our country. Please ask us.
    Electric voltage in Uruguay and surroundings
    Uruguayan electric voltage is 220V, Argentina and Brazil you might find also 110V, so we recommend special care when plugging in cameras or other appliances.
    Special advises:
    In order to avoid problems that might compromise your stay, we suggest not to carry money in a single place, like pocket or backpack. If you are carrying a large amount, we suggest you keep it in the hotel’s safe. Keep in mind that rarely hotel keep copies of the key, so make sure you pay extra attention not to lose it. Like all cities, we recommend special care when walking at the streets, in order to avoid any inconveniences that might spoil your stay in our country.
    If you wish to share your room with a person that was not booked previously as passenger, please check with local hotel in order to avoid inconveniences.
